Myanmar
Arriving,  March 2011 in Yangon, we were greeted by our guide San San,
from “Myanmar Voyages”,   she spoke wonderful English and would guide us
through the stopovers and domestic flights in the country, Myanmar
formerly called Burma.
Our group consisting of 41 persons, from various countries and languages.
After having loaded the luggage into the buses we’re on our way to
“The Traders Hotel” right in the center of town. The checking in
procedure was professional and quick, we had less than an hour to get
organized and off we went for our first visit, The Shwedagon Pagoda.
It was already late in the afternoon, when we arrived which was good
timing as the heat of midday was about over and the pavement started to
cool, it was more pleasant to the feet, there is a giant hall where one has to
leave his shoe’s, no leather-ware allowed on the grounds of the Pagoda.
The sights, sounds and atmosphere are beyond words, tens of thousands
of people are coming here to the holiest place of Buddhism.
Some locals stay overnight, they bring food and flowers for Buddha.
It took a good couple of hours to go around the giant “Stupa” in a clockwise
direction.  All the time slowly advancing as there is so much to see.
Afterwards we went back to the place where we left our shoe’s and
surprise they were there, watched by a local lady, a self imposed guard.
We returned to our hotel, where at a late hour, 20.30 PM a European style
buffet dinner was served in the dining room, specially for us after
devouring the food we said good night to each other took the elevators to
the various floors and retired for the day and fell soundly asleep.
We have been four days in the country, visiting besides Yangon, Bagan, and
Mandalay. The various pictures will have to tell the story.
It was a most fascinating trip in an otherwise unspoiled landscape.

Yangon is the capital of the Country, it is a modern city in all stages of
development.
Bagan is the area of the Temples - Pagoda's a historical place which
one should not miss to visit.
Mandalay has been in the past the capital and has most of the
monasteries within its city limits.
