Jordan

Amateur Radio,  - see the JY74X story - brought me in the
summer of 1995 to The Kingdom of Jordan.
The main task of the visit was to operate with a group of Amateurs and
to pave the way of cooperation between the two Countries.
It was the first anniversary of the “ Washington Declaration ” - See
Washington Declaration.
For this special venture, “Mount Nebo” was chosen.
Which is approximately 10 kilometers west of the town of Madaba, the
plateau rises to about 800 meters. There is an amazing view of the
River Jordan as well as Bethlehem, and the Mount of Olives are visible.
Ruins at Mount Nebo reach back to the times of the Old Testament.
Beautiful mosaics have been uncovered in the Monastery on top of the
Mount.
As this event happened before the Peace Agreement, our transport to
and from was by way of “Royal Palace” cars including driver and
bodyguard.

One afternoon His Majesty The King also known as JY1 (his amateur
call sign) Gave us the ultimate honor to be with us on Mount Nebo while
operating the transmitters and speaking with friends all over the
world.  The operation lasted for one week.
